What is SawaPay?
SawaPay is the Embedded Finance Platform designed for the Gig Economy Workforce and Businesses in Africa. They offer two products such as Payroll Management System to companies and Embedded Financial Services to Gig Workers and Employees across Africa.
The Problem
SawaPay wanted to reduce the manual effort involved in payroll processing and employee management, which resulted in frequent errors and inefficiencies. They required a system that could automate payroll, support multiple payment schedules, and offer reporting capabilities while allowing for easy onboarding of employees and contractors.
My Responsibilities:
As the lead UI/UX designer, I was tasked with designing the entire system from scratch. I collaborated with stakeholders to understand the requirements and designed user-friendly interfaces for both employers and employees. I worked on every feature and module, ensuring a seamless user experience.
Design Process
Through user interviews and stakeholder discussions, we identified key pain points related to time-consuming data entry, difficulty in tracking coffee origin, and limited visibility into stock levels.
1.User Research & Information Gathering:
Conducted interviews with HR managers, finance teams, and employees to understand their pain points in payroll management. Key challenges included manual data entry, complex tax management, and inconsistent payroll schedules.
2.Competitive Analysis
Worked closely with the product team to define the system requirements and align on the product vision. This involved regular meetings with the development and business teams to ensure all necessary features were captured..
3.Stakeholder Collaboration
We developed interactive prototypes of the system to facilitate user testing. Farmers and staff evaluated the usability and intuitiveness of the interface. Their feedback helped us refine the design and ensure a smooth user experience.
All Responsive:
Designed mobile version for each screen ensuring a smooth and intuitive experience across all devices. The dashboard adapts to different screen resolutions, making it easy for employees and staff to navigate and interact with the system on various devices.
Results:
The SawaPay Payroll system successfully automated the payroll process for both employees and contractors, reducing manual input errors by over 50%. The design increased user satisfaction by simplifying complex tasks such as onboarding and payroll calculations.
